| Notes: Director: John Daly; The year is 1944, in the later part of World War II, the Nazis are eager to lay their hands on a large steel and metal factory owned by a very rich Jewish industrialist in Hungary. In return of signing over the factory, his palace, and all the family’s personal possessions that include gold and an extensive art treasure, they would guarantee a safe conduct for him and his large family to Switzerland. In the last moment, it is discovered that a young Arian couple that work as servants for the Jewish family, are in fact Jews, but they were not included in the list of family members entitled to the safe passage. Still, the Jewish industrialist is determined to have the young couple rescued. Loosely based on the life events of Hungarian Jewish industrialist Manfred Weiss, played here by Martin Landau. |
